Dustan J. Abshire

Dustan J. Abshire's path to law did not begin in a classroom. It began in corrections facilities, on patrol, and in interrogation rooms — investigating some of the most serious crimes imaginable. That foundation sets him apart from virtually every attorney you will meet.

A Lake Charles native and graduate of Barbe High School, Dustan spent fifteen years with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, serving in corrections, patrol, and ultimately as a detective in the Sex Crimes and Severe Child Abuse Unit. He pursued his Criminal Justice degree from McNeese State University while working full-time in law enforcement, then earned his Juris Doctorate and Civil Law Certificate from Mississippi College School of Law.

In June 2014, Dustan joined the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney's Office — first as an intern, then as an investigator. After passing the Louisiana Bar in April 2015, he served as an Assistant District Attorney prosecuting felony offenses including theft, DUI, armed robbery, sex crimes, and homicide. He understands how cases are built because he built them.

In September 2016, Dustan founded his own firm, focusing initially on domestic relations matters before expanding his practice. In May 2025, he joined forces with Loftin Law Group, bringing more than two decades of real-world experience to clients who need a skilled and determined advocate.

What distinguishes Dustan is rare: he has worked criminal matters as a detective, a prosecutor, and now a defense attorney. He knows how law enforcement thinks, how prosecutors construct their cases, and precisely where vulnerabilities exist. Dustan's practice is intentionally selective — clients receive his direct attention, candid counsel, and aggressive representation.

Beyond the courtroom, Dustan has served his community through the USSSA Board for baseball and as a member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. He has been married since 2001 and is the proud father of one son and two stepdaughters.
